About MEAT
For the past two years, Segal has balanced life as a butcher, artist, a husband and a father of three daughters in North London. Meat is a raw, unflinching exploration of the intersections between these identities through memory, imagination and desire. The works navigate intimate themes of parenthood, identity, connection and sexuality, blending domestic and organic imagery with symbols of lust and passion together with abstract forms. Beds, bodies, toys and other metaphorical objects reappear throughout the pieces, evoking the shared spaces and emotional complexities of family life. Playful yet evocative, the paintings balance tenderness with bold exploration, reimagining traditional roles and challenging conventional narratives. Segal’s deeply personal works offer a thought-provoking reflection on the intertwined realms of family, creativity, and self-expression as queer man.
